Woman’s Club of Stuart Salute Our Veterans Month! 

Flowers for the women who have served in the Armed Forces

STUART, FL – On Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at 11:30a, the Women’s Club of Stuart (established in 1913, District 10) held their monthly luncheon and business meeting that featured guest speaker and award-winning author, Bette Lee Crosby. Crosby presented excerpts from her moving fictional tale, Cracks in the Sidewalk. For more information about Crosby’s work, please see: Additionally, for the November meeting, the Woman’s Club collected items for White Doves, Council on Aging, Toys for Tots, and the Veteran’s Hospital. The ladies also held a bag-stuffing workshop to prepare gift-bags for Helping People Succeed. Two more new members were inducted to the club which has enjoyed a 35-40% increase in membership in the past year.

Moreover, in honor of Veteran’s Day, the Woman’s Club of Stuart was proud to salute the members of their club for service and support to the United States Armed Services. The following members were recognized: Barbara Peard, US Air Force Reserve Corps. nurse; Polly Pharo, US Navy, Lieut, j..g., nurse; Lee Vought, US Navy, Yoeman, 2nd class; Patti Eck, USO volunteer, and Lauri Parenti, USO volunteer.

The Women’s Club of Stuart is part of a larger organization, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), District 10. Since it was founded in 1890, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs has been a unifying force, bringing together local women’s clubs from around the country and throughout the world. Although there is considerable diversity in the ages, interests, and experiences of GFWC clubwomen, all are united by a dedication to community improvement through volunteer service and fundraising endeavors. With “Unity in Diversity” as its motto and a strong umbrella of programs that adapt to suit the needs of their communities, GFWC encourages the flexibility that has enabled it to expand its reach in a rapidly changing society. The December 15th luncheon and business meeting will be catered by Eventmakers International, tickets are $20pp, and reservations are required. The afternoon will feature Holiday music by some very special guests, and will be hosted by the Executive Board of the Woman’s Club of Stuart.
