FL Writers Launches Treasure Coast Chapter

Guest Speaker Yvonne Mason (standing) with FWA Organizer Melanie Young

Kudos to Melanie Young for getting this off the ground. With all the writers and writing groups located here on the Treasure Coast a Chapter of The Florida Writer’s Association is long overdue. The FWA Treasure Coast Chapter met at the Jensen Beach Barnes & Nobel and will continue to do so on the first Wednesday of every month. Whether you are a published author or an inspiring wannabe, you should plan to attend the next meeting which is scheduled for Wednesday, April 7th at 7PM. This is a great organization that offers writers any number of opportunities to both hone their skills and create greater awareness of their work.

The kickoff meeting was lively, fun and informative with guest speaker YvonneMason, who shared her secret of success.  Yvonne publishes her novels through LuLu Press, handling the sales and distribution herself. This tiny little dynamo of a woman is astounding. She is the author, marketing department, advertising coordinator, sales agent and fulfillment house for her work – imagine all of this packed into a frame that stands about five feet tall. Yvonne is also a give back person who was quick to share both her social media marketing tips and a list of her resources.  If you are a writer looking to expand your horizon, you’d do well to get in touch with her (ysam51@yahoo.com)

Yvonne is diametrically opposed to the pathway of traditional publishers. Instead of placing her books in brick and mortar locations, she does everything through the internet, this includes promotion as well as sales. With every book that goes out, she includes promos for other books and in this way she;’s created a self-perpetuating market niche. To buy one of Yvonne’s books, or check out the currently available titles, go to www.thebookattic.ecrater.com

Melanie has extended an open invitation to writers of the Treasure Coast to join us for the next meeting – again, it’s at the Jensen Beach Barnes & Nobel on April 7th at 7pm. Whether or not you are a member of the FWA, please attend, you just discover that you need to join this terrific organization! For more information e-mail Melanie at mustangmelly@comcast.net
