Laura Wilkes has everything a woman could want when she snaps the picture of her five-year-old daughter on the carousel. Each time the carousel comes around Laura snaps another picture, seven in all. This is a day of unforgettable happiness; one of the few Laura has left.
In the months following the stock market crash the family is beset by tragedy. A homicide that goes unpunished. It’s the height of the depression and there are hoards of faceless, nameless men living in train yards and back alleys. The murderer is never caught but the family never gives up hope of finding him.
Now twenty-five years later, Laura’s daughter has fallen in love with a policeman. Jack Mahoney is a rookie with little or no power, but he’s the one, the only one, who can deliver the justice the family has long awaited.
In a heartwarming family saga that stretches across three generations, and brings back Wyattsville’s favorite detective, readers will get to know Jack Mahoney as a young man about to fall in love.

This was very easy reading and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It’s about a family through the generations and the ups and downs that life throws out. By having those family bonds you can get through anything and also good can come from bad
This is the fifth book in the Wyattsville Series and just as riveting as the others. I sat down and read this in one sitting. The people draw you in right away, and you want to see how their lives progress and how they deal with change and adversity. The events that happen are believable, and written in such a way you can clearly visualize day to day life. I read the Series in order, but you can start anywhere, they are intertwined, but stand alone as well…I love Bette’s books, because there is always something to learn, or to remember when life gets in the way. If you haven’t read anything by her, you are missing out…
I’ve purchased it. Looking forward to reading it in the near future.
Thanks for the heads up. Just ordered the book. 🙂
No Christine. All my series so far are stand alone novels. This is actually a background story to the detective in Spare Change. You can pick up Spare Change now for free if you’d like to start there first. 🙂
Will I be confused if I start with Beyond the Carousel?
I just received it. Looking forward to reading it.
Thanks Bette. Just ordered the book. Looking forward to reading it. Sounds really interesting.
