7 Great Tips on Reading iBooks – #fanfun
Let’s start with FREE…If you have an iPad, iPhone, MAC, or iPod Touch you either already have the iBooks app on your device or you can get it from the APP Store FREE…and once you’ve downloaded the app, finding great books is easy.
1. Starting on the home page, you’ll find easy to browse scrolling bars for the Best New Fiction, Best New Mysteries, Popular Romance, Best of the Year, plus so much more divided by genre and interest. You can browse the New York Times Bestseller List or tap your way over to a collection of popular Bestsellers that you can nab for under $4.
2. If you are a romance reader you’ll love the Free Series Starters…a special collection that allows you download the first book in a series FREE. It’s a great way to sample the series and decide if it’s for you before you purchase the other books. And there are popular preorder opportunities that are only available on iBooks.
3. If mystery is your thing, iBooks has you covered in spades with more popular bestsellers under $4 plus author spotlight interviews with all of your favorites, including Lee Child, Gillian Flynn, John Grisham, John Patterson, Sandra Brown and many more. In the Collections scroll bar you’ll find links for sneak peek excerpts to download for free and a special tab for women sleuths.
4. Okay, now that you’ve loaded the app and found yourself a good read, you can save those special passages that touched your heart and go back to read and reread them as often as you like. Remember highlighters? Well digital marking is easier. While you are reading in the iBooks app, you can highlight words or passages, search the book for specific words or phrases, and make notes. – To do this just tap and hold your finger on the text you want to select. A pop up bar will appear and tell you of all the options you have for marking your text.
5. You can also create your very own iBooks library.
Here’s the how to: First, figure out what categories best describe the books you read. Then get as creative or practical as you want. These will be called “Collections” or “Books” depending on what device you use.
Second, tap the “Collections” button on the iPad and “Books” button on the iPhone or iPod. You can then create your own categories by tapping the “New” button and if you change your mind, edit the category names by tapping the “Edit” button.
Third, organize your books. While viewing your shelves tap the “Edit” button in the upper right hand corner of the iPad screen, or the upper left hand corner of your iPhone or iPod. Tap all the books on the shelves that you want to move to the new category, then tap the “Move” button.
6. Follow the dotted line. At the bottom of the eBook there is a dotted line. This dotted line lets you slide forward or backward in the story you're reading.
Tap the little brown rectangle that denotes the current page, and hold. Slide your finger right or left to move through the book.
7. Free samples!
Not sure if you want to read the eBook? Browse the book by using a free sample. This lets you get a taste of the book before committing to buy it.
Choose the book you'd like to find out more about and tap the cover of the book. A book detail page will pop up. Right next to button with the price is the word SAMPLE. Tap that button and the sample will downloaded to your device. There will be a red sash diagonally across the right top corner of the book cover.
Tap the cover to read the sample iBook as you would any other title in your collection. If you like it, buy it!
