I love working with Kathy from I Am A Reader, Not A Writer. She curates the type of readers that fit my books perfectly. The next couple of weeks on the Reader Salute, I'm going to be sharing the reader reviews for Passing through Perfect through her service.
Alisa's review of Passing though Perfect – Reader Salute
This is not the kind of book I usually review, but I was in the mood to read something different. This is a historical novel that takes place in the 1940's right after World War II. Benjamin Church is a black man who has just returned from the war to his hometown of Grinders Corner, Alabama. He had hopes to be a master mechanic, but when his mother died during the war he knew he needed to return to the farm to help his father.
Benjamin meets and falls in love with Delia and they have a son, Isaac. Benjamin is a great husband and father, even though they barely have enough money to get by. He works so hard. Benjamin has learned through experience that life may bring a good amount of regret and heartbreak, but it also allows you to pass through those perfect times that you can relish forever.
I had a hard time getting into this story – probably because it's not the type of book I normally read – but once I got into it, I didn't want to put it down. I felt so invested in Benjamin's character and all the friends he made along the way. He's a good man with a good heart, and I found myself cheering him on and encouraging him all through the book.
