Marcy Hammer’s life has been turned upside down. Striking out on her own is difficult at first, but Marcy manages to find traces of humor in her heartbreak. Even while devastated by Harvey’s departure, she still has her indomitable spirit and her self-respect. She has no intention of falling apart, either, even when her adult children drop a few bombshells of their own and she discovers a secret about her new, once-in-a-lifetime friend. Life may be full of setbacks, but by lifting herself up by her own lacy straps, Marcy just may be able to handle them all.

A delightful debut novel. I loved this heartbreaking yet laugh out loud funny book. It is about the main character Marcy’s husband (Harvey the Bra King) leaving her for a younger woman and Marcy finding herself after the heartbreak. Lift and Separate covers it all and is a story told with drama, emotion and humor. Author Marilyn Simon Rothstein uses a unique outlook and colorful details to enrich this moving tale of heartbreak and healing. A top of the month for me. Highly recommended.

As an aside… Ms. Rothstein’s follow up novel “Husbands and Other Sharp Objects” is due out in March of 2018. I have been lucky enough to read an early ARC and loved it. She is an author to watch.
